If you read this, you feel probably (a bit) frustrated, because you cannot download any app from the Windows Store.I do not want to speculate how bad is that and how difficult is to find the right answer. The reason for this is that the error code 0x80070005 is very old one. It comes before the time of the store.
Did you know, that any error on WIndows that ends with 05 means access denied?
Yes, that could be helpful. suddenly, security is not an easy thing and it could mean anything.
I do not want to dig deeper in details and you also don't want, believe me, but this error happen by a small number of accounts. "Small" in the world of one billion Windows accounts can be huge. There is something to do with AAD principal names etc.
Here is the workaround for users seeing this issue:
- Update Windows to the Windows 10 May 2020 Update or later.
- Delete the account files in the following folder: %systemdrive%\Users<user>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\AC\TokenBroker\Accounts
- Make a backup of the following file %systemdrive%\Users<user>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.AAD.BrokerPlugin_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings\settings.dat and then delete it.
- Sign out and sign back in (You can also reboot if you like restarts).
Hope this helps.
