I have installed the Alcohol 120% trial on the Vista RTM and the Windows-Vista was not able to boot any more. After the user has logged in the Vista just restarts with the blue screen.

To solve a problem I noticed that Alcohol uses few different drivers. Unfortunately online support forum of Alcohol development team could not help me, because drivers describe there ware just NOT installed on my machine.

Responsible drivers are:

xmasbus.sys and xmasscsi.sys

To remove them, go to registry and remove following entries:

HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/xmasbus and

HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/xmasscsi

Do not forget to remove driver files from system32/drivers directory.

Boot from the vista cd and use the repair tools.

At the time of writing of this article this did NOT work. Probably because the Vista was not released yet.

However repair should work in the release version of Vista. Last but not least, recovering of the “Last known good configuration” should help too.
