Did you know? Swiping down an app doesn’t cause the process to fully terminate anymore in Windows 8.1? It solely disappears from the left side list of recently used apps.
In Windows 8 users seem to be confused about the semantic of close gesture “swipe down”. Most users thought by this gesture it is the new way of minimizing the window. They did not realize that this will close the app  and all work will be lost.

Because of that the same swipe gesture will now “hibernate” the app.

If you want to achieve a close like before in Windows 8 do it as before, but this time drag the app to the bottom of the screen and not all the way. At the bottom edge hold it for two seconds. When you see the app screen start flipping, let it go and the app will close = “process is stopped”

That is...interesting. And unexpected. And totally not obvious. :/

Gotta investigate this in more detail.
